Chocolate Avocado Smoothie
Smoothies are a popular go-to on busy days, but most of they're higher in sugar than they are in nutrients! Most smoothies are not only fruit-heavy, but if you get them at a smoothie establishment, they often have sneaky ingredients like ice cream, sherbet, and added sweetener!
The key to a healthy smoothie is to pack it with nutrient-dense whole foods and healthy fats to slow down your body's absorption of any occurring natural sugars.
This might be my favorite smoothie recipe to date...well, actually, it's more like a milkshake! It's fully of healthy fats, it's dairy-free, and the only sweetness in it comes from one banana. This beauty is thick and rich, thanks to the addition of coconut milk and an avocado (which you can't taste). The collagen peptides also add a great dose of protein! It keeps me full for hours!
Chocolate Avocado Smoothie
Add to a blender:
• 1 banana (fresh or frozen)
• 1 small avocado
• 3/4 cup coconut milk and/or water (or other milk of choice)
• 1 Tbsp nut butter (heaping)
• 1 Tbsp quality cocoa powder
• 1 scoop grass-fed collagen peptides (optional) (you can also use chocolate collagen and eliminate the cocoa powder)
• 1/2 tsp vanilla
• A few ice cubes (if not using a frozen banana)
• Extra water if needed
Other optional add-ins/toppings:
• Organic greens - I usually throw in a handful of kale!
• Frozen cauliflower rice - Great in place of ice, makes the smoothie super smooth and can’t taste it!
• Unsweetened shredded coconut
• Nuts/seeds - I like hemp seeds, pecans and hazelnuts
• Cocoa nibs
• Adaptogens - like maca, ashwagandha, etc
Directions
1. Blend it up, add some crunchy toppings (to aid digestion) and enjoy!
