Gut Healing Sour Gummies
Hiding among the sugar and food dye peddled to young children in the form of Jell-O there lies an ancient superfood. Yep, I’m talking about gelatin…that weird powder that gives Jell-O its glorious jiggle!
What you may NOT know is that gelatin has some amazing benefits: healing the gut, aiding digestion , improving skin, hair, nail, bone and joint health, helping prevent wrinkles, reducing inflammation, improving sleep, reducing anxiety, improving immune function, regulating weight and hormones, and more!
Our ancestors knew the glory of gelatin and got it regularly from eating the bones, organs and tissues of animals and by making beautiful bone broths. Sadly, these things are no longer a part of our culture and we are seriously missing out. I say it’s time to reclaim this goodness for ourselves!
There are a few ways you can incorporate gelatin into your diet without eating all the unsavory bits! One way is with bone broth (I’ll show you how to make it sometime) OR you can buy gelatin in a ready-to-go form to use in goodies like these gummies! Just be sure to only use gelatin from a grass-fed, organic source (like Vital Proteins).
Glorious Gut-Healing Sour Gummies
Ingredients
• 1-2 cups of organic berries (I used blueberries, marionberries and raspberries)
• 2/3 cup lemon juice
• 4 Tbsp grass-fed gelatin
• (To make less tart, add 1-3 Tbsp of maple syrup)
Directions
Heat the berries and lemon juice in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring and mashing the berries as they cook. Once the berries have broken down and the mixture is bubbly, strain the mixture and pour into your blender. (Only necessary if you are using seedy berries. You may have to press the mixture through the strainer to get all the juice out.) Blend until smooth. (Be careful, as hot liquids in a blender can be very exciting!) Add the gelatin and blend till smooth. Pour into molds (I used this heart-shaped mold today) or a 9x9 dish. Refrigerate for at least an hour then cut them up or pop them out and enjoy! They store well in the fridge.
Your gut will thank you!
